Stars in the sky and on the screen

The great Ingmar Bergman once said “No art passes our conscience in the way film does, and goes directly to our feelings, deep down into the dark rooms of our souls.”

Rye is dazzled by urban theatre

As a kid I had my share of tredding the boards at the local theatre.  I never made it to the lead role – I was usually cast as the ‘character’ or anything involving a liberal serve of musical ham – think Eliza Doolittle’s Dad in Pygmalion, the Girl Who Couldn’t Say No in Oklahoma, or The Drunk in Ibsen’s The Insect Play. There was that one time I was cast in the romantic lead as Wendy in Peter Pan ( though wearing a Grandma nightie on stage isn’t all that flattering). But it WAS theatre, and it was dazzling. Hands-on, minds-on Peninsula park fun

I love nothing more than a good romp in the outdoors with the squids over summer. My pick for top local outdoor play and learn spaces are the Junior Ranger programs at Mornington Peninsula National Park, Point Nepean National Park, Coolart Wetlands and Historic Homestead and Collins Settlement near Sorrento.   Continue Reading →
